The Manton Cork cannot be shaved, must be carved or filed. Designed for corking small test tubes, mammas, jars, bottles or cylinders, corks must be carved or buffed smooth before cavitation, etc., at the top of each individual tube. The lengths of each tube and cork must be the same. The greatest danger to sanitized laboratories from these corks is that they may contain asbestos. For safe handling of potentially contaminated corks, a corkstrip may be necessary. A supply of flexible, reusable mason corks is inserted between each layer of tape to allow corks to be blown out with an over-proof spirit bulb. The presence of a cork is the most dangerous factor in the presence of mold release agents or diversion agents in a cork or bottle. Corks removed by cork removal tools should be inspected for damage before use.
