Product Info for Nosler 7.62x39mm 123 Grain E-Tip Boat Tail Brass Cased Centerfire Rifle Ammunition
This 7.62x39 mm Ammo is purpose-built to be hunting rifle ammo. Using Nosler's E-Tip lead-free Spitzer boat tail bullet type, they're designed for accuracy, penetration, and expansion. The jacketed hollow point E-Tip lead-free bullets meet all lead-free hunting regulations in areas where lead-free is required, for hunters who want to eliminate lead contamination in their meat, or those who just prefer nontoxic ammunition to minimize environmental impact.
The 7.62x39mm round isn't well-known as a big game hunting round in the United States and is usually seen as a varminter caliber. However, with the right load and at reasonable ranges, like these 123-grain hollow points, it'll definitely get the job done. These have a muzzle velocity of 2,350 fps (feet per second) and muzzle energy of 1,508 ft-lb (foot-pounds). Zeroed at 100 yards, that translates to 2,099 fps and 1,204 ft-lb with a 6.4-inch drop at 200 yards. Zeroed at 200 yards results in 1,865 fps, 950 ft-lb, a 3.2-inch rise at 100 yards, and a 13.3-inch drop at 300 yards. Obviously, this makes the 7.62x39mm an ideal short-range caliber for use in heavy brush or timber. For an ethical shot (along with shot placement, of course) the hunter should be working at around 100-150 yards.
Nosler's brass-cased centerfire rifle ammunition is suitable for reloading over many cycles, unlike more common 7.62x39mm steel-cased brands.
