Product Category Description:

The solid type (without valves) is excellent for making seals on small cylinders and vessels. This type (with valves) requires that the container be suspended at a distance from the stopper; the long distance from the valve to the top of the stopper shortens the distance. The term "self-capping" refers to the method of making a seal by adhering a piece of wire to the top of the stopper, as in the case of a flared neck tube. A slit is ground through the stopper at the perpendicular (down-and-in) hole, allowing leak-proof connections to be made with any machine. When the adhesive begins to set, simply knock on the end of the stopper to initiate a chemical reaction, usually causing the sample to become acid-fast, causing rapid chemical reactions. A stopper with a valve must be used for the last time, usually in the form of a syringe. When the valve begins to leak, close the stopper firmly at the perpendicular axis of the bottle, place the stopper on a suitable support surface, squeezing gently to achieve the seal. A slit in the lip of the stopper is suggested for applications with small bore cylinders, requiring only minor trimming.
