Might want to look into 22TCM9r - conversion barrel & ammo. Not as cheap as 22 ammo, but readily available for far less than 9mm ammo https://www.opticsplanet.com/armscor-precision-inc-22tcm9r-barrel-conversion-kit-for-glock-17-58065.html

Yes you do - The internals of the slide are different, and unique to the 22. Them's the breaks.
