When sighting in a thermal optic in the daylight you will see differences in heat signatures like you were viewing at night. However, certain objects may reflecting more heat during the day then at night. Please email us at techsales@opticsplanet.com for more information.
Check the ATNcorp site, they've some great examples of what you see thru a thermal scope. My ATN Thor 4 provides a choice of white/hot, black/hot and colors by temperature. My primary setting is white/hot, so animals show up white and most of the woods show up in varying shades of black and grey. I zero using a regular target with squares of metal tape (A/C Ducting tape) placed in the center and at 4 quadrants. I heat the spots with a lighter when setting up, then periodically re-warm as needed. Holes in the aluminum tape show up white till the edges cool off. Usually, one 4"x4" square is ample at 50-100'. I watched a YouTube on using handwarmer grains taped onto a regular target once. Tried it several times, but it' messy and unreliable.
