Short action rifles are rifles chambered in cartridges traditionally based off of the .308 Winchester or are around the same length such 243 Winchester, 7mm-08 Remington and 6.5 Creedmoor. Long action cartridges are larger cartridges such as 30-06 Springfield, 270 Winchester and 25-06 Remington.
