As each crossbow is different, is there a sighting process to go through upon mounting?

Yes, there is a sighting in process for the Burris Oracle X Rangefinding Bow Sight. On the left side of the product page there is a video that explains the sighting in process.

How far you will be able to shoot your crossbow depends on quite a few variables, like crossbow bolts, broadheads, the conditions you are shooting in and some others. However, the Burris Oracle X Rangefinding Bow Sight would be a good option if you are looking to shoot extended distances with a crossbow.
