Do you have a suggestion for a certain type of pump system to use with this product.

Camp Chef recommends a shurflo style diaphragm pump, specifically stating, "This would be the type of pump in an RV trailer. They work well because they turn on and off automatically when the shower head is opened, and water is flowing. Suggest oversizing the pump a little and get something that will pump 8-10 Liters/Minute for the HWD5 (3 gallons)."

can you operate this with a 1lbs camping propane tank?

No, it is designed for use with a standard LP tank.
