I wasn’t aware that purchasing a 10 round mag is the same as the 30 round, except for the insert. Can you explain if I can remove this spacer insert?

yes you can remove the insert but the magazine will not be functional due to the short spring. you would need to replace the spring with a standard 30rd spring as well.

Is this a 10 round mag modified from a 30 round sized mag? Or is it a short 10 round mag?

10/30 , it's 10 rounds in 30 rounds body
