does this trigger require a full auto bolt carrier to work?

Yes. you will want a full auto rated BCG for this. Still will take some tweaking between gas and buffer to achieve the action desired.

The pull weight is around 5-6 pounds. it's on the heavier side. I have never actually measured mine.
