Is this a rubber coated or hard nylon surface?

It is rubber over-molded and softer to the touch than Nylon.

If you have a Mossberg 500 20 gauge this should fit perfectly. Do you have the barrel fully seated?

It does not include the Action Bars, if that's what you mean by "guides". Those come pinned in other brands' products, or as part of the Slide Action Tube Assembly (a separate purchase).

Will this fit the 505? My understanding is the 505 is a 500 with a shorter barrel and reduced length of pull.

This will only work if you replace your slide assembly with the Mossberg 500 6-3/4" slide assembly.
