what frame is for a S &W 686 4" 357 mag

This grip will fit the 686 as long as it has a Square Butt frame.

The Hogue Smith & Wesson Square Butt Grip will not fit a S&W J Frame revolver. These Hogue Smith & Wesson Square Butt Grips are for L, N, and K Frame revolvers. However, the models at the link below will work for that revolver.
