The Hornady Critical Defense line of bullets are designed for use in shorter barreled handguns typically used for concealed carry purposes. These bullets provide more rapid expansion. The Critical Duty line of bullets are more suited for Law Enforcement purpose where they will be firing through a full sized handgun and the bullets retain more of their weight and don't expand as rapidly as the Critical Defense line.
