You can definitely mount it backwards but I modified mine to function backwards, removed a blocking pin and it works fine.

Will this handle a tremor 50 in 50 bmg?

Never shot a 50bmg but it is very sturdy construction and I can't imagine it would have any issues under normal use (if you try to prevent the gun from recoiling with the legs extended you may bend them?)
