This is compatible with the Malcolm 3X 17" rifle telescope. This would replace the existing lock ring by the front ring of the scope.

Using the sliding ring will allow the optic to slide to reduce the recoil forces travelling through the mounts and bases. This is desirable when shooting high pressure loads in 45-70 or heavier.
