What is the widest mounting surface on this scope i need 5.25 inches

The total mounting space is 5.96" according to Leupold. This is the space between the start of the objective lens housing and the magnification ring. The front mounting space is 2.25" and the rear mounting space is 2.48".

Would this scope be good for 600 yards

It comes down to a lot of personal preference but I like using the Leupold VX-3HD 4.5-14x40mm Rifle Scope Boone and Crockett reticle.
