Most rifles are sighted in for 200 or 250 yards. The AR barrel is about 4 inches below the optic’s centerline, so the bullet crosses the line of site at about 25 yards and again at 250 yards, so the Chevron is for aiming dead on at about 25 yards and beyond. Inside of 20 yards, CQB distance, the bullet will strike low if you use the Chevron. So the upper portion of the reticle allows you to aim dead on at inside of 20 yards and compensate for the bullets path before it crosses the line of sight. In other words the upper reticle makes you aim 4 inches high so the bullet will strike where you want at close range.
