Its a polarizing filter, which better organizes light waves and patterns of light, it increases clarity by filtering the incoming light

The polarizer is adjustable. The more you adjust it, the more light is filtered out. It would be most useful if shooting in full sun on a white sand desert. Your eyes would be stressed by all the light. Its basically adjustable sunglasses for your optic. Boom.
