will it work on a 243?

This scope is designed for the .223 round fired from an AR-15 rifle, however you could use it for .243 by simply recalculating the BDC markings using a ballistics calculator.

The scope will work on a .308, however the BDC markings will not be accurate, you would have to re-calculate their values using a ballistics calculator.

If mounted between 1.5" - 1.6" you will notice the front sight in your image as a blur, however this optic will still be usable.

The reticle was developed specifically for the trajectory of the .223 Rem /5.56 NATO round with 55-grain polymer tip bullet. It can work with other rounds however the holdovers will not be the same.
