No,no,no- this is way it works- You charge the cover first, then the cover it placed on the sight to charge the battery in the sight, when the cover's battery is depleted you charge again. The great thing about this if you are in the field and the sight's charge is low, just place the cover on the sight to charge. No need to carry a back up battery and/or it eliminates the need to remove the sight to change out the battery.

I thought the same thing. The cover itself charges the optic 3 times before you have to plug it in.
