The BSU Barrel can be used for either a Rifle Build or a Pistol Build, whereas the BSG is for Rifle builds. If you notice, the BSU has a hole in the ring along with the notch at the top of the ring. The notch at the top is to allow the Gas Tube to fit through the assembly. Both rings have this. But the hole you see in the BSU unit is for the included dummy Gas Tube as a pistol build will not have a Gas Block. Hope this helps answer your question.
