When I first started buying scopes for my rifles, I thought the more powerful the scope the better. However, after, I received a bit of wisdom from the professionals; I found that my consideration of which scope to buy was incorrect. I found that all of the good scopes could handle whatever caliber you put under them. However, what I was missing was the consideration of range to zero and the range of the projectile. As an example, if I were going to mount a scope on a 22LR, most likely a 2.5 or 3.0 to 8 power would be more than enough to zero at 100 yards, be able to see targets at 15 to 25 yards, and could handle targets up to 300 yards. Higher power scopes, obviously, are better at ranges beyond 300 yards, and not as well suited for close targets because of the higher magnification. My recommendation, if you are considering the Sig Sauer BDX3 2.5-8X32, which I have mounted on a 22 WMC and it is perfect for the rifle. Do not worry about the caliber the scope can handle. My experience with this scope, it will have no problems handling whatever the caliber of rifle it was mounted too.
Sig does not list a specific caliber this is built to withstand, but they have stated themselves that it will stand up to 9.3x62 Mauser without any issue.
