This is a shortened buffer tube, at just over 5" this buffer tube reduces the overall length of an AR pistol.

This kit (properly installed ) will function a standard carbine length gas tubed barrel just fine.
I have it on a 12.5" carbine length Ballistic Advantage barrel, and it works great.
