I’m my opinion a non magnified prism is a waste. You suffer all the issues of a magnified optic like eye box, eye relief, light transmission and you gain nothing. Get a green or red dot. Sig and Holosun make some high quality optics. Their dots come with multi-reticle options, bdc options, they have motion activated on and off (sits still for 3-5 minutes it turns off, as soon as it moves it turns back on), they have solar backup as well, they also had no eye relief or eye box limitations. You can mount your do as far forward as you want and it will still be usable, you also don’t have to be centered in the optic, as long as you see the dot, even if it’s in the corner that is where the round will go. You can add a magnifier behind the dot to increase how far you can see, you can get flip to the side or flip to the center magnifiers ranging from 3x to 7x. For your AR pistol you don’t really need magnification for “self defense” situations but you can always add one. I keep my magnifier in a small pouch on my gear and it’s a QD lever mount so I can pop it on and off anytime. Hopefully your AR pistol is at least 10.3” for 5.56, 6” for 300bo and 7.62x39 so you can get the velocity needed to make 5.56/223 work the way it’s supposed to.
