Although black nitride is a universally standard barrel coating, DLC (diamond-like carbon) is objectively superior as it relates to surface hardness, corrosion resistance, lubricity, and overall durability. Black nitride is a thermochemical surface treatment, whereas DLC is a thin-film carbon-based coating.
