The difference between the two is size in diameter. The commercial is a very small amount larger in diameter. It's literally tenths larger but enough to make difference. you can use a "commercial " model on a Mil-spec with a little wobble, but not the other way around. I hope this helps

The mil-spec model will fit a mil-spec receiver extension (buffer tube) and the commercial is for a commercial extension.
