HD and ED can have some very synonymous meanings, depending. It could be stated that ED (Extra-low dispersion) is different than HD (High definition), in that ED would be a fairly specific glass type, and HD in the aforementioned context would be an adjective/descriptor. In our case, HD is an extra-low disperison, high-density lens system!
