Bushmaster's Review of Adams Arms P1 Upper 5.56 - 16in Mid Gas Length, 556 Barrel
I did a lot of research before purchasing my first piston driven gun because my life depends on it. Was still skeptical until I put my first 500 rounds through it. The p1 upper worked flawlessly with no malfunctions. I shot 55 grains to 68 grains. I shot cheap rounds and expensive rounds. No issues. The firing pin left a deep impression on the primers unlike my old but reliable bushmaster. Although the Adams is heavier , I prefer the weight as it is a much more stable platform. I've always preferred a smaller foregrip and was also skeptical of the larger foregrip on the Adams but it's very comfortable and ergonomic. The recoil seems to be more manageable verses the gas system because it is a straight push and I like that. I love the heavy barrel and the 1 and 7 twist. I mounted an acog with crosshair drop compensator and shot a lot of 5.56 62 grain. This thing was a tack driver at 100 yards. I love everything about it and for an entry level p1 upper, you can't beat the quality and price. The upper is built solid and tight. The qpq coating system leaves the barrel clean even after several hundred rounds and makes a great finish to a beautiful product. The most impressive thing to me about the upper is how clean it was after my first 500. I pulled the bolt carrier and it looked like I had just cleaned it. The upper runs noticeably cooler and cleaner than conventional gas systems. After running this upper I am sold on the piston driven system and until something better comes along, I'm staying right here.
