KillianG's Review of ATI Outdoors Strikeforce Mini-14/Thirty Folding Rifle Stock w/ Gen 2 Tactlite

I had the same problem as others have, missing a packet of screws and nuts. I wrote to ATI and they had a new packet out to me right away, so that's points for Customer Service. The rest of it is definitely solid, as dense and weighty as you'd expect from any other polymer frame. The pictures always look like they'd feel as cheap and flimsy as an $80 airsoft toy, but then you hold the pieces and all confidence is restored.

The pistol grip is purdy darned chonky, so if you're coming off the OEM stock or some custom thumbhole dealie, prepare for a little bit of an adjustment period. The rubber backstrap on it is replaceable, I think, but there weren't any slimmer ones included. Maybe ATI has future plans for that.

The rails are not interchangeable with ATI's aluminum rails, they don't have the right indent for this stock. It's a moot point, because they're made of the same stuff as the stock body, and solid enough to handle basic lights, lasers, foregrips, etc. Again, maybe in future there'll be more stuff.

There's some to-do about the butt piece, where the shaft fits into the main body, and I think that's just because the butt piece is made to be universally fitted with other ATI stocks, like if you got the one for the SKS or AR-15. Also, the cheekrest is a little fiddly to install, with a whole extra set of brackets. The upside is if you want to eliminate the cheekrest, there's no open screw holes to ruin an otherwise clean look.

Bonus tip: Speaking of a clean look, if the plain drab gray or tan isn't enough for you, look up videos of using alcohol inks to fake wood grain on surfaces like polymer or aluminum or what-have-you. You can use those techniques for any pattern you want, like using design tape or stencils to fake a Kryptek-style hex pattern.
Pros:
  • Solid pieces, well moulded
  • Has everything, with options for more
  • Polymer means DIY mods are a little easier
  • ATI customer service
Cons:
  • Factory QC left out some pieces
Best Used for:
  • Making AR fanboys cry
  • Getting a smile from that girl with the 10/22
