Steve G's Review of Aero Precision AR-15 Recoil Buffer

I had the nylon bumper snap off the buffer on one of my older, high use ARs. (rare occurrence on stock gas system carbines) Original Smith M&P (pre-sport). Standard Carbine weight and purchased an H weight at the same time for another carbine. Both weighed in exactly as stated. Both work fine and construction / finish is solid. I don't need a bunch of fancy colors and graphics on a buffer. I just need them to work and both of these do in AR 556 platforms at an affordable price. Always great service, selection, shipping from Optics Planet. Dont waste your money on anything above this price range, Its just a buffer. Do your homework if new to AR platforms regarding buffer weights, letter designations (H, H1, H2, etc). You can easily order the wrong buffer weight for your needs. Spend that savings on ammo and training. Unless you are running subsonic and suppressed or playing with adjustable gas systems and having problems with ejection patterns, your stock buffer and spring will be just fine for the occasional shooter. Most non-competitive shooters can't detect the perceived softer recoil from a heavy buffer and spring swap anyway. Important takeaway...dont ignore your buffer and spring during routine cleaning. It takes 2 seconds. Keep an eye on the wear patterns on your buffer face. It can tell you a lot about the overall health of your carbine.
Pros:
  • decent price
  • Specs out per mil spec
  • Quality slightly above mil spec grade
Cons:
  • none so far
Best Used for:
  • OEM replacement
  • buffer weight upgrades
