I purchased this to mount to a Browning Buckmark for a 22 bullseye league and later may try it on a Ruger Super Redhawk in 44 mag for deer hunting. It worked very well for this purpose. The red-dot added noticeable weight to the pistol, but since the pistol was light to begin with it wasnt an issue (may be a different story for the heavy revolver). If you want to mount it to a heavier pistol or if weigh is a concern, Aimpoint makes a micro version that is much lighter and may be worth considering. I cant imagine the extra weight would be an issue mounted to a rifle or shotgun. I like this red-dot over other ones Ive used because parallax isnt a problem with Aimpoint. A slight shift of you head wont significantly change the point of impact (I have not tested this extensively to confirm Aimpoints claim of zero parallax, but just from using it in normal target shooting situations, parallax does not seem to be a problem). The long battery life is a plus too. Ive seen other people at the range that had to leave the range without firing a shot because the last time they used their pistol, they left their red-dots on. This could be solved by having extra batteries in the case, though. Still, the 5 year battery life is nice. I have the 2 MOA model which is great for bullseye, but if youre shooting a sport with multiple targets or going to use it for hunting, I think the 4 MOA dot would be quicker to find in the sight and get on target. Overall, a very high quality red-dot.
Pros: No paralex, long battery life, fairly light weight
Cons: High cost
