Steve's Review of Alpha Shooting Sports ALPHA Marksman V4 Slide for Glock 17

Let's be honest, you're looking at this slide for the same reason I did, it looks great and is priced Right for the custom look. Optics Planet got it to me in a reasonable time as usual and I began my Polymer 80 build. I ran into three issues while installing the upper parts into the slide. 1) For some reason the safety plunger didn't want to seat all the way into the hole. I applied significant pressure and nothing. 2) When I went to install the extractor assembly, the metal extractor plunger would only enter 2/3 of the way. 3) the striker assembly rubs on the preinstalled channel liner pretty significantly. After removing the RMR cover plate I noticed that the mounting screw hole is drilled through to the channel that the extractor plunger runs through. I'm not experienced with RMR cuts so I don't know if this is normal or not. After test fitting the plunger a few more times I came to the conclusion that there has to be a microscopic piece of metal from the tapped RMR hole blocking. I begrugingly took a 5/32" drill bit and slide it in the extractor channel. The drill bit actually twisted around what ever sliver of metal was blocking. I put the bit in a drill and held on tight. Whatever was blocking was removed with a lot more ease than I had anticipated. I ran the bit down through the entire channel and the plunger dropped right in. I grabbed the safety plunger and that dropped in as well. It wasn't the same obstruction blocking both but I think it was a similar issue with both. 2 of the 3 issues fixed painlessly. I haven't had a chance to fire the firearm that this is going on because I have an issue with the P80 locking block forcing the slide into a downward angle.... Ugh.... Not the slides fault though, my G23 factory slide does the same on the P80 that I have. If I get the time I'll update after I get the frame squared away. I will add that I have zero milling marks on my slide and it looks great. Hope this helps as I didn't see anything on the internet about the issues I was having.
Pros:
  • Sleek, Custom, Priced right
Cons:
  • Unforseen QC issues
