big AL's Review of American Rebel Freedom Concealed Carry Backpack, Extra Large

I have been carrying a backpack for 30 years. The American Rebel backpack is the best one I have ever purchased. It is not a step above the competition. It is more like 100 steps ahead of everything else I have ever carried.
This backpack is very well made. I have been carrying mine for about 6 months. It may let me down after years of use, but I am doubting that. It is solid. It is heavy duty. it is very well constructed.

I did not choose to spend the extra dollars to have a ballistic panel in mine. I probably should have. It would be worth the money for how long I believe this backpack will last.

It is also worth noting that this backpack comes in several different sizes. I always go big or go home. I ordered the XL size. That may actually be one the downsides of this backpack. It might be a little too big. Keep in mind that I am 5'5" and 160lb. XL is almost too big for me. I think any average size person would be happy with the XL size. I only carry a Springfield Hellcat in mine. Then I have a pocket knife, notebook, laptop, and various other odds and ends. This backpack is large enough to carry a full size AR with a foldable stock and several spare mags. If that is your jam, then definitely go with the XL. You could easily carry 2 handguns and spare mags instead. Either of these setups could be done completely concealed without difficulty in this backpack.

The holster set up on this backpack is not ideal. I really hated it at first. It is pretty much 2 rectangular pieces of stiff foam tightly wrapped in an elastic sleeve. The sleeve has a hook and loop fastener on one side that attaches to a hook and loop fastener inside the concealed carry compartment of the backpack. A firearm can then be shoved barrel first in between the 2 pieces of foam. The firearm has to be pressed way too far in between the foam pieces to close the zipper. It makes it impossible to gain a solid purchase on the grip. The foam is loosening up with repeated use. It may not sound like it, but that is a good thing. It allows me to slide my hand in there and grab the gun. Now I do not completely hate this holster setup anymore. But I am still planning to upgrade to a kydex holster at some point. Crossbreed makes one with a hook and loop fastener designed specifically for purse/bag carry situations. I am planning to put that holster in this backpack.

This backpack has great strap and handle options. They are all heavy duty and adjustable. The left shoulder strap has a tiny whistle attached to it. it is easy to miss and difficult to figure out. But it is there, and it offers a good shriek.

This is a great backpack aside from the concealed carry and self defense features. It has 3 large zipper compartments for storage. The rear most compartment is the one designed with concealed carry in mind. The compartment in the middle is the largest. It has a laptop sleeve and plenty of extra space. The front compartment has several different pockets and dividers. There are too many other pockets and zippers to name them all. You will not be disappointed with this one. Order your favorite color scheme today. I opted for black with orange trim.
Pros:
  • Heavy Duty, Great Quality, Plenty of Space
Cons:
  • Holster Design, Difficult Draw, Maybe too Big?????

  • Every day use or Concealed Carry
