Alex's Review of Armasight BNVD-51 1x19mm Bravo Gen 3 IIT, Dual Channel Night Vision Binoculars
I will start off by saying I got a sweet black friday deal on these, close to half off. I have always wanted bino's but the list price being that of a decent used car was just too much for me to ever pull the trigger. But I have to say, these are pretty dang awesome. The bravo tubes definitely have two sizable blemishes in them (one in each tube) but they are mostly off to the peripheral of your viewing area. I would be lying if I said I didn't notice them, especially after using a nice PVS14 tube before getting these. But after a while you really don't even register that they are there, and the price cut for these two tiny blemishes is 100% worth it. I wish I had saved my money on the PVS14 monocular and went with bino's like these from the beginning. They feel well built, strong, and function as you would expect for something that costs as much as a used car. As far as you performance goes, they are definitely gen-3 tubes. You can easily see in the dark with any amount of ambient moonlight/starlight and for indoor areas it comes with a IR light that you can switch on by pulling out the On/Off knob and rotating to a third position (so you don't accidentally turn it on unintentionally) which is nice. I have now used gen3 green phosphor and now white phosphor, and while objects do appear slightly more crisp with more detail with the white phosphor, I like the green phosphor just as much and don't notice a ton of difference. Green phosphor makes it FEEL more like night vision, probably due to nostalgia playing splinter cell as a kid, so personally I don't see white phosphor as a necessity and perhaps not worth the additional price. But I would do your own research on that, just my opinion. Being able to have depth perception while using night vision is a complete game changer. I can easily make late night runs to the kitchen, make something to eat, and clean up with the lights in my house completely blacked out. Are they awesome? Heck yes. Are they expensive? Heck yes. Is being able to see in the dark while others cannot worth it to you? Up to you, but I am very happy with my purchase! Optics Planet came through clutch with this deal, probably would never actually gone through with a purchase like this otherwise.
Pros:
well built
Functional
Good night time visibility
Cons:
Blemishes are obvious, but not totally worth the price cut
Best Used for:
Larping
midnight trips to the kitchen
Would Recommend:
Yes
