This is a great little unit for what it is designed to do. I went with the Gen 2 HD version as gen 3 was a little out of my budget. The image is clear for a gen 2. With the illuminator, it is pristine, 1080p quality. I could squeeze about 350 yards out with the illuminator on a dark, no moon, overcast night. Without the illuminator, the image is not as detailed and somewhat fuzzy. This is on 4x. I can use it up to 10-11x. 6-7x is about the sweet spot and after that, the clarity goes downhill pretty quick. This alone has me wanting to upgrade to gen 3 for the clarity. The focus knob is a work of art. You have to play around with it, but when you find the right combo of focus for the unit and your scope, the image will be very clear. Overall, optics planet had it for a great deal and it was worth the money. But honestly, if you have the resources or discipline to save up for a gen 3, it probably would be a better investment. I find myself wanting more magnification and more clarity, but that's why those gen 3 units are so expensive. Buy once, cry once.
