Scott's Review of Armasight OPMOD Zeus 640 2-16x50 (30 Hz) Thermal Imaging Weapon Sight, FLIR Tau 2 640x512 17 um 30Hz Core, 50mm Lens

This is my second thermal sight and let me say you won't be disappointed with the Armasight product.
Mine was the 640 Zeus in FDE, and built like like Military equipment should be hard and rugged.
The software menu and button lay out is rock solid compared to the ATN Thor 640, the focus ring is tight enough and dosent go out of focus when you fire the weapon.
The Resolution is outstanding for OLED View Finder and Tau 2 core by Flir. The Auto NUC with internal shutter is amazing.
Depending on atmospheric conditions (the more contrast between back ground and target will give you the best picture possible.
Battery life is much better with 2 CR 123 batteries and the clarity and contrast of this units is outstanding.....

Ok now for the Minor gripes.. The external DVR ruins the scope... the cable is an old school military 8 pin din cable that comes out the top and into the DVR.
The package of DVR I received did not have a rail mount options so I had to glue an adapter on the side of the DVR Unit. The buttons on the DVR are hard to operate in the dark and the video out cable is in the way. The AVI format even in low resolution produced huge files sizes and had to be downsized to send via email or view on phone. I looked in to buying a better DVR by Law-mate but didn't want to drop another 500.00 for a good quality DVR.

If your dont care about recording the action and just want a fantastic hight clarity scope with great functionality go for it.

ATN Thor has all the featurs of the the Zeus Pro from about 5K but the Picture quality sucks and the manual put the cap on for NUC makes the unit less desirable. Also I have problems out of the box with ATN Thor with Firmware updates and locking up during the middle of the Hunt making me take out the batteries to reset the unit.

My advise is to wait for Flir Thermosight Pro Series (PTS536) that will be released the end of March however its only 320x256 unit and I feel you really need the 640 units to identify targets.

Happy shopping
