Nothenews's Review of Armasight Zeus 336 5-20x75mm Thermal Imaging Rifle Scope
This is my first venture into thermal imaging after using image intensifier style night vision. First is the device itself, it is a very well built device with fairly decent controls. For the most part the "white hot" and "black hot" are the only really useful algorithms in the displays selection. Some of the color selections could find some use at times i suppose. I would recommend that when shopping for thermal that you don't compromise and get a smaller objective lens in favor of a higher resolution microbolometer. I can easily detect and identify a deer out to 400 yards(that is as far as i have tried so far) but the humidity can greatly affect this ability. The difference in resolution between a cool dry evening and warm humid one is substantial. Now second is thermal imaging versus image intensifier; the image intensifiers seem better in my opinion for general viewing and perhaps terrain navigation but for finding "heat objects" there is no comparison, thermal wins hands down.A good night hunting combo would be image intensifier goggles for moving around and the thermal for weapons mount. As long as your prey is not smart enough to hide behind glass they will end up on the dinner table. Although keep in mind that real thick brush can also block the far ir that this device reads. I would not hesitate to recommend this device.
