Ponylander's Review of ArmorSource AS-600 Rifle Resistance High Protection Fully Loaded Assault Regular Cut Helmet
This helmet is simply superb. More rifle-resistant than anything else I know of except for my Ceradyne (aka 3M aka Avon) L110 Level 3 Combat II.
Fit and finish are superb, the harness stitching looks good, and the helmet came with rails with bungees, night vision mount, Velcro. Made in America. Perfect.
Considering the degree of rifle-resistance offered by this helmet, I think it is worth every penny. Since I mentioned the Ceradyne (now owned by Avon) L110 Level 3 Combat II, between the two, if I just saw both side by side for the first time and read their essentially equivalent specs, I think I'd have chosen this helmet over the Ceradyne because it just seems a bit more refined. I am not saying that it is in way better than the Ceradyne, but when I took it out of the box, I had a stronger "WOW!" reaction than I did with the Ceradyne. YMMV.
BTW do NOT believe that the so-called "level 4" helmets online are actually level 4, and don't skimp on a helmet.
Many thanks to Optics Planet for not only having a size small in stock in the color I wanted, and $500 less than I paid for my Ceradyne. I tend to reward merchants with future business when they keep a lot of inventory on hand (and in different sizes, etc.), and Optics Planet just earned more of my business by having a small one in stock.
