Justin's Review of Athlon Optics Argos BTR GEN3 6-24X50 30mm Tube Rifle Scope, FFP
I mounted this scope on a UX Zelos Pre-Charged-Pneumatic air gun. This thing is the bomb. Once zeroed in, all you have to do is keep the turret from turning while you unscrew the middle of it, take off the cap, and adjust the zero lock, set the turret so it is at the zero mark, then you're good. What am going to do is add pieces of tape on the different graduations on the turret to account for different zeros when using different ammo. This scope is very easy to zero, very crisp audible clicks, it would be great for a long-range setup. It comes with a screw-on sunshade and pop on spring-loaded end-caps. It does NOT come with scope rings, so keep that in mind. Optics Planet had some very tempting deals, thank goodness, I bought three different scope rings, first one said 34mm offset, I forgot that this was a 30mm scope tube, then once I had already ordered it and found out that it meant 1in. rings with a 34mm offset, (learn something new every day) I had to buy different scope rings, but I still thought it had a 34mm tube... I figured that out once I already bought it... then I bough yet another pair of rings, those ones are 30mm and work splendidly. I would also recommend those, they are Leapers or UTG (Can't remember) one piece mounts, I can't find a lower priced mount for the quality. I had to get the MIL one, there was a glitch in the system, wouldn't let me buy the MOA with the same discount, but I am getting used to it. The side adjustable parallax is sweet! Super smooth, don't have to deal with the scope cap rotating. The side adjustable illumination is also sweet, it only works in darker conditions, but I am fine with that, I like the black reticle better usually. The First Focal Plain (FFP) allows for all of the same hold-overs at a low magnification as at a high one. The magnification throw lever is a sweet addition to the setup, allowing for smooth adjustments. This scope would make a great hunting rifle optic, make sure you get the correct height mounts, it does have a very large objective bell (or whatever you call it, lol!). The reticle is very fine, I LOVE IT! If it gets lost as some people complain about, just simply turn on the adjustable brightness illumination switch (6 levels).
Pros:
- Very clear
- illumination
- High magnification is excellent for long range
- Adjustable parallax
- very nice, precise reticle
Cons:
- Heavy
- dwarfs my airgun, and my .22 henry Octagon Frontier
