Thomas's Review of Athlon Optics Midas Gen II UHD 8x42mm Roof Prism Binoculars
Wanted a second set of 8x42 binoculars to keep by the window. I have a Celestron Trailseeker ED 8 x 42 that I like very much and keep in my truck. Thought I would give the Athlons a try cuz I am happy with my reasonably priced Athlon spotting scope.
The optics are very good for a $300 pair of binoculars; I would rate them as good as my Trailseekers.
A couple of small negatives: the eyecups seem a little flimsy when you extend them, they don't snap into place as firmly as my Trailseekers. Not a big concern for me as I am usually wearing glasses and therefore don't extend them out. And the objective lens covers snap inside the barrels unlike the Trailseeker covers that wrap around the outside of the barrels. That said, they do snap in very tightly so unlikely to fall out easily like some of the Nikon binoculars I have tried and they are tethered to the barrels, so you won't loose them.
Those two small negatives make it a 4 star, BUT the optics are definitely five star and the focus wheel is just right.
