Ron's Review of Athlon Optics Midas Gen II UHD 10x50mm Roof Prism Binoculars
I bought these for hunting and decided to go the 50mm instead of the 42mm to get more light transmitted. Comparing these to my older pair (10x42) both with Japanize glass, the clarity was about the same and while actually glassing there was no noticeable difference. What was apparent was the field of view was much wider and the light transmission in low light was much better. With that I was glad to made the decision for the 50mm lens. I didn't get all hung up in edge to edge clarity which these were pretty good because for me at least I focus on the middle of the lens while actually using them and the edges seem plenty clear when I tried to assess that. The problem I was having is trees and other items were always at slightly different distances, never found a perfectly curved surface in the woods to be able to test edge to edge clarity (everything at the same focal distance). To get excellent clarity in real life situations they would need to increase the depth of field and I have no idea if that's possible. Bottom line yes these were great for glassing and yes I would do it again.
