Bio's Review of ATN 1,000 yard Auxiliary Ballistic Laser Rangefinder for Smart HD Scopes

Had a moment of weakness and ended up with this rangefinder. It attaches to the front of my ATN x-sight 4K pro 3-14 scope. The ABL came with the correct adapter to screw on to the front of my scope already installed. The unit simply screwed on in place of the sunshade and then was adjusted with a small setscrew and secured with a couple of allen head machine screws. The required allen wrenches were included. I drove out to the range and tried to get it to work but could not cuz I put the battery in without my glasses on so did not see the plastic wrap around it. ;^( Once the plastic was removed from the battery and I had the proper blue-tooth and rangefinder selections made on the scope it paired first try. I set up the correct pellet weight, scope height, zero range ect in my profile and was able to just press the function button on the scope from then on and the reticle was automatically set for the current range a few seconds later. No more educated guesses on hold over ;^) With my profile data tweeked slightly the FX Impact shot dead on at 25 and 50 yards but was near 1.5 inces high at 100 yards using the JSB Exact Heavy 34 gr pellets. The built in laser used to zero the ABL is not bright enough to see @ 50 yards in the day time. So I zeroed it at only ten yards for the testing and will re-zero when it's not so bright out. Only a couple of hours spent with the unit thus far but looks like this is going to be fun!
Pros:
  • Well made unit No more guessing holdover
Cons:
  • It's a bit bulky and a bit heavy
Best Used for:
  • Hunting, plinking, target shooting.
