Battle Born XJ's Review of ATN ThOR-HD, 640x480 Sensor, 1-10x Thermal Smart HD Rifle Scope w/WiFi, GPS

The price tag is a bit steep, but after two months of heavy use in the field, I think it was a good investment. The scope is well made, easy to use, it holds zero, and has the best image quality among comparable scopes. The out of the box settings will lead to believe that the images are not that impressive, but once you learn to make the proper adjustments the image quality improves drastically. The colder it gets, the better it works. The NUC process needs to be performed often to optimize image quality (the NUC process recalibrates the image to compensate for changing environmental factors like temperature etc.) which is a bit annoying but it is quick and easy to do. I have it mounted on a "return to zero" picatinny mount that works very well. This allows it to be held in the hand and used to scan an area or used as a spotting scope and then quickly and easily reattached to your rifle. The factory mount that it comes with is almost worthless. It is actually a flashlight type mount and not well made. A $5000 scope should come with a better mount. I would not recommend using it. This scope has a lot of whistles and bells but most of them are unnecessary for someone who is seriously hunting. The Obsidian app is awesome. The bluetooth connection with a smart phone allows anyone who is with you to watch on their phone exactly what you are seeing through the scope. Very cool. The external battery is also a must. You really need to leave the scope turned on the entire time you are using it since it takes a few seconds to boot up whenever it is shut off. With the external battery, I have run the scope for 8+ hours straight and never run out of battery. It eats rechargeable AA batteries like they are going out of style. The carrying case is of the same quality as the mount. A simple cordura bag with no padding. A delicate instrument like this should be better protected. Harbor Freight actually has some nice, hard sided, waterproof cases that are reasonably priced. A bit of cutting on the foam liner and you have a very slick case for not a lot of money. This scope has worked flawlessly so far. However I hope I never have to deal with ATN Thor customer service. I have sent numerous emails asking how to properly clean the objective lens (this is not covered in the manual, only the eyepiece is covered) and have yet to receive a response. I guess you have to call to get an answer. Overall, the scope itself is an excellent value and has put a lot of fur in the truck.
