Jim's Review of ATN X-Sight-II 3-14x SmartHD Day/Night Rifle Scope

So far it has been a steep learning curve as my ideal of a owneres manual and ATNs are completly different. I do not use FACEBOOK so ANT should be the go to people for information about their porduct NOT a ONLINE social page. If you call them be sure to do it first thing in the morning cause after that there tech support group phone line goes straight to voice mail. NO HELP, Email sure if you don't mind waiting for a week or so for a response. Lots of simple questions and the answers should be in the owners manual. THEY ARE NOT.
First thing the owneres manual tells you do do is update the firm ware OK, their video runs past the point of what if nothing happens when you put the Micro SD card in and nothing happens???? Answer there is not a update for this product at this time OK great how ever does this mean the soft ware will detect the update once you have one and it is loaded onto the SD card and the scope is turned ON???? A couple moments of there time at this point in the video would have been invaluable or maybe putting some info in the owners manual apparentlly not to them.
Lastly the battery pack that they recommend all of the details are in japanese and once again a great little sales Brochure slash owneres manual comes with it. Question is the switch on the side of this thing a On / OFF switch or is it a selector switch for the USB output ports? No answer.
The little pouch that comes with it has a real nice ATN logo on it but it is about a quarter inch too short and about the same as far as width. The battery does not fit in all the way so guess I will have to stretch it or some thing. To get it to drop in all the way.
Lastly get your self a tripod and a camera mount to a Picatinny rail adapter to set this beast on while you are fiddling with it as it is awkward and heavy trying to play with the buttons and look at the manual at the same time.
Amazon sells a adapter and you will have to come up with a small Picatinny rail as the adapter is female as is the scope base so in the real world a female does not fit into another female.
Now last last thing, once you charge up the battery pack and power the scope up don't just click the button on the pack or unplug it. This causes the scope software to crash and you will not be able to power it back up right away. Mind you batteries are installed so Question Why does it just crash instead of going to battery Power??? NO Answer in the manuals about this. So once you crashed the soft ware what I did was pull the batteries reinsert them and powered back up. THEN do a normal shut down, RESTART and the scope will recognize the battery pack. WOW sure would have been nice to read about that ahead of time.
And I haven't even mounted this on a weapon platform yet the only reason I haven't sent this thing back is I am holding out that it will actuall work after I sight it in at the range.
If you buy one GOOD LUCK you will need it.
Pros:
  • SciFi features if it works
Cons:
  • Heavy and the manuals are vague
Best Used for:
  • Learning aid about night vision nor sure I would trust my life to this thing yet.
