Thomas Jung's Review of Barnes Vor-Tx Long Range Centerfire .30-06 Springfield 175 grain LRX Boat Tail Centerfire Rifle Ammunition

I tested Barnes Vor-Tx LR 30.06 175 grain ammo against Barnes Vor-Tx 30.06 180 grain ammo in my Bergara B-14 Hunter (24” barrel) and in my Weatherby Vanguard 2 (24” barrel). At 50 and 100 yards, the two cartridges had very similar performance. At 100 yards, I shot multiple 3 shot groups with front and rear bag rests, and overlaid the shots on a single target. Both rifles printed all shots for both the 175 grain and 180 grain bullets within a 2” square with essentially the same average impact point. I consider the 175 grain bullets to be interchangeable with the 180 grain bullets in my rifles out to 100 yards. The 175 grain bullets have a slightly higher ballistic coefficient which may result in different performance beyond 100 yards, maybe better. I plan to compare the cartridges at longer distances later. I plan to use the 175 grain LR cartridges as my choice of hunting cartridges moving forward. The 175 grain bullets had a measured average muzzle velocity of 2855 fps in my Bergara B-14.
