Legacy Reviewer's Review of Barska Green Laser Sight w/ Picatinny Rail 5mW AU10982
I was hoping to write this review after I had shot a few hundred rounds through my new S&W M&P 15 with this new green laser attached ... but it never made it to the range. Setup was easy, the laser was incredibly bright ( but came from the factory with fingerprint smudges on the lenses, creating a cool disco style diffracted pattern, easily brought back to a single point by cleaning the lenses. )
After I installed it on said AR-15, I had turned it on for about five minutes ... then turned it off and sat the rifle on my lap. About 30 seconds after doing so, I heard a very loud and disconcerting "shhhhllllooopppp" sound, and Mr. laser was not of the living anymore ( would not turn back on. ) The battery housing, after opening, smelled like exploded electronic guts, familiar to anyone who has had something electronic blow up on them.
I think this laser would be a great casual lasing device for those who need occasional laser functionality ... weekend warriors and such ... if they get a laser that delays self destructing for a year or two. The mount system was good, allowing in- line vertical or horizontal attachment with the barrel point of aim. The remote pressure switch seems to be of high quality, compared to other green lasers out there that I've bought.
Housing is strong and heavy. Adjustment screws for up/down, left/right laser movement seemed to do very little ... hence, mount this sucker as close to line of sight with the barrel as possible.
Pros: Extremely bright green laser
Cons: Self destructed
