Not designed by a gun owner - Barska Large Biometric Rifle Safe

I should start out by saying that this safe IS the solution I was looking for. It fits well in my closet. It stores the guns that I have. And the fingerprint reader provides easy and relatively fast access.

It is NOT the solution that they advertise.
- The door won't close with a full size pistol in the pistol rack.
- There is no way you could fit 12 rifles in the slots provided (unless they were all skinny .22s).
- The slots are at the wrong height for anything.
- A rifle with a scope is the equivalent of 3 Barska rifles.
- The shelves are too shallow for pistol shelf hangers (not that Barska promotes this option).

But all that said, I made it work.
- First thing I did was to remove those useless barrel slots. The slots are 21.25" from the bottom shelf. And the next shelf is 27.25" from the bottom shelf. If your rifle isn't between 21.5"-27", that's a FAIL. If you take out the bottom shelf and put your rifle on the floor, the slots are 33.125" from the floor and it's 39.125" to the next shelf. If your rifle isn't between 33.5-39", that's a FAIL.
- Next thing was to remove the pistol rack on the door. The rack will not accept my XD9 with mounted light, and even without the light I couldn't close the door if the XD was in the right side of the rack. FAIL.
- I drilled and screwed a pistol magnet into the door, being careful not to interfere with the electronics or moving parts. My XD mounts firmly on the magnet.
- I placed a motion activated, battery powered light inside the cavity to the left of the door. There are several options on Amazon that will fit the 1.75" cavity. I will use a USB power bank to recharge the light when necessary.

My wife and I both programmed in several fingers to the biometric sensor. We did 5 different angles for each finger. I have not had any problem getting into the safe when I wanted to, nor have I been able to open the lock with a non-programmed finger. I did remove the lock cover and I carry the backup key on a chain, just in case.

Bottom line, I like the safe. It serves me very well and I couldn't find anything this useful anywhere near this price point. Just don't be fooled by silly design or unrealistic claims about capacity.
