Legacy Reviewer's Review of Blackhawk Covert Carry Messenger Bag

This messenger bag can easily fit a full size laptop computer and various other paraphernalia. It is strongly made and lined with waterproof material. I already have a very similar bag from Timbuk2. the reason I got this one is the ability to carry a concealed pistol. My Glock 26 fits well. The slots for the extra magazines are a bit tight. There is one problem however. The pockets meant to conceal the gun and magazine are on the exterior of the bag at the rear. No one can see them when the bag is on your shoulder. If you should put it down and someone else picks it up for any reason, it will become immediately obvious that you are carrying. Most of the other concealed carry bags put their gun compartment in the middle between two outer compartments for just this reason. The gun compartment on this bag is not concealed at all. Access to the weapon may also not be quite as quick as with a middle compartment. With those bags, youhust grab the front and rear compartments, tear the Velcro open and reach in to grab the gun. With this bag, you would have to pull it forward or flip it around so you could get to the rear outside gun compartment. The gun compartment has a rather skimpy nylon pull tab that doesn't give much purchase when trying to access the gun against the rather strong Velcro. This really looks like a well made messenger bag that had the minimum of modification done to it in order to call it a concealed carry bag. I can't fault the quality of the bag, but I am not really satisfied with its overall design as a concealed carry bag. that's a shame since Blackhawk usually produces products that are highly functional for their intended purpose as well as solidly made.
Pros: Large, well made
Cons: covert carry option
