It works, i guess - BlackHawk Folding Front Back-Up Iron Sight

These backup sights came on my new Savage MSR-15 Recon. As far as pros, they are very light. Cons: When I got a chance to take a close look at them, they appeared to be pretty flimsy, made of cheap plastic, and I don't expect they will hold up to much wear & tear. The most frustrating part is that the front sight will not stay in the down position when firing. Once I fire around, it pops up. This isn't the biggest deal ever since my reflex sight is a 1/3 co-witness, and lots of guns have the fixed front sights which cannot deploy down. But it is annoying when I see it in the up position. Also, I know this review is supposed to be for the front sight, but I wanted to point out that the back sight is made of plastic that doesn't seem to be too durable. Almost as frustrating as the front sight that won't stay locked, the rear sight is hard to put into the down position with one hand. The mechanism that holds the rear sight in place does not allow you to push it back with one finger along either side, and it won't lock in place. To lock it with one hand you either have to push it back from the center of the locking piece or you have to use two hands, one on each side. It can be done but it is tricky and involves having to handle your firearm in an awkward position while trying to snap it back into place. I much prefer the Magpul sights over these. Overall, I think that Blackhawk could have done a better job on the build quality and design. Although I am not impressed with the sights, they did come with the firearm, so maybe I am being too picky. A lot of optic ready AR's don't come with backup sights. But I wouldn't purchase these sights as a stand alone product, especially since I have so many other great options out there for a comparable price.
