Darrell's Review of Boss Buck Protein Lower Unit Poly

I almost didn’t purchase these because of the negative review here. I ordered 3 and I believe someone accidentally marked them at a very cheap price so I pulled the trigger. They are Boss Buck and come in Boss Buck boxes with Boss Buck labeling on the unit. I will admit that the picture on this website show a bigger flat lip at the top which I figured you might use to Bolt on the bottom lower unit. I was very excited when they arrived and the lower unit slid tightly INSIDE my 55 galDrums. I used roofing screws with the rubber gaskets to secure the lower unit. This of course allowed for a very good seal (I used Flex Shot) and the seal is on the underside of the barrel which is optimal for not allowing water to get to your protein. It also allowed for me to use the Drum Band Leg kit. The drum band leg kit was not purchased at Optics Planet but they are all made the same. They have a welded tab that catches the bottom of the drum and lets the drum rest on it and prevents the drum from slipping down. If these were made like the negative review claimed you would not be able to use the band type leg kit and would have to use the ones you have to drill holes into your barrel. You don’t want to drill holes into your barrel if you are going to feed protein out of it.

I run a lease out in west Texas and we have been protein feeding for years. These Boss Buck feeder heads are the best I have come across for not getting gummed up because of rain or moisture. With the funnel on the end of the barrel and not inside these units on a 55 gal drum will hold #400 of protein. The 200# feeder sales for right at $300 and the 350# for over $350 and are made out of plastic . $25 dollar drum + $50 Galvanized lid + $50 leg kit + $61 Boss Buck lower unit ends up less than $200 for a 400# steel protein feeder that will last forever with the best protein head on the market. I will let you do the math and figure out how good this deal is.
